Chicken to Eta

I finally finished an edit of this area I imaged the other week.
This particular edit is HOO. 40 x 60s Ha - 39 x 60s OIII
There's also 40 frames of Sii, but I liked the look of HOO a bit more so processed this way first.
1600mm with a 100mm canon lens stopped to f4.
Focusing a camera lens kind of sucks compared to a SCT.


Any criticisms are welcome, I think some of the stars in the middle of the Carina nebula have a bit of dark ringing. The stars could be rounder, I just plonked the mount in the usual spot and went unguided. Autoguiding would be nice.

That field is unreal!
I didnt see the ringing that you mention, but am pretty gobsmacked at how well all the globs are resolved.

This just seems a perfect showcase of Southern hemisphere goodness, I'm a big fan :thumbsup:

Oh, quick question about setting up with your lens. Did you need to polar and star align with it? Or did you use a scope first then sub-in the lens? I tried a widefield on vela with a similar set up, but sharpcap said no, apt also said no, so I just eyeballed it and pressed go.

My mount was plopped on the same spots on the concrete I always put it, I last polar aligned it with the SCT and drift align so just dropping it on the spot gets me under +- 30' of the pole. I then use the lens and camera to do a 1 star align on the HC to use go-to functionality for dim stuff, coincidently also Vela. I referenced stellarium, and bright stars in live view to roughly frame, followed by a test shot.
Plate solving is definitely better lol.

The colors look a bit funny being HOS, but you can definitely see more detail from the SII filter. The core of Eta nebula is a little less over exposed relative to the rest of the field now too, mostly because B channel is now solely SII filter.
