Beginners Astrophotography versus Images

Quick question (as one who has recently returned to imaging and IIS after a 10 year break!). I noticed many people posting excellent images in "Beginners Astrophotography", and other posting in Images "Deep space" which are also excellent images.

Any rules or unwritten understanding around this? I suppose it doesn't really matter but just wondering?

My recollection is probably unreliable but I think the beginners section was introduced as a result of requests from more advanced astro photographers who felt some separatation was appropriate.

No, it wasn’t Alex.
Mike (Iceman) started it to encourage beginners to post their images.

I think it just depends on where you feel you’re at and what level of critique you can handle. I think the beginners section should be there to learn and take gentle advice from people at a similar level to yourself. The comments should reflect the title and be constructive. I feel in contrast that the deep space section should be for imagers to share their work whilst being open to maybe more vigorous critique. From my experience though, the transition is difficult. I have posted a couple of times in deep space. Not because I feel my images are of a significantly high standard but because I am willing to learn from harsher judges of my work on how I can improve. Alas I moved back to beginners because I got very little feed back at all. Maybe I just wasn’t ready ?

Also - there can be great images in the beginners section
and poor ones in the Deep Space section.
I see it a bit differently.
The Deep space section is more for people
with dedicated astro cameras - hopefully mono -
and quite a bit of experience.
However there is no actual definition that I'm aware of.

Good idea. Always wondered about that. Having said that some of the shots in that noob forum knock the socks of the deepsky forum.

I continually surprised how some folks with middle of the road gear, no permanent observatory are producing amazing images, compared to a decade ago :)

I always thought it just meant beginners to the hobby should post their images in the beginner section. If that's the case, there are some amazing beginners there!
I've seen some images that should really belong in the other forums, but this isn't the most heavily policed part of IIS I've noticed.

the way I treated it is if I'm looking for constructive critical feedback, I'll post in the beginners astrophotography section. If I'm just looking to share my the work, I'll post in regular astro section.

I started in Beginners and appreciated all the feedback. As soon as my techniques improved I was encouraged by the more seasoned imagers to move from beginner. If I encounter an image I struggle with that always goes back into beginners for advice to improve.
