Ok, let's get all this rain out of the way in the next week, before the start of the New Moon week. Although it may take a week for the ground to dry out. The humidity here is as bad as Brisbane! Not used to this.

Better than the alternative, stinking hot days, dust and fires.

It was 43C in western Sydney last Tuesday when I was down there.

Exactly. It was 49c last year. See that big blue thing up ahead? No smoke.

Still not up to January average for rain so might be a bit more yet and settle into an East Coast low. Sun has just come out though. Rain clears the air nicely.

It's very humid here. We hit 32c this arvo. I was thinking of setting up for tonight but it's a bit risky.

Looks like you would only get an hour and a half from dark before the rain clouds. Could get lucky.

I've been watching the forecast like a hawk, I might be able to get 9-12PM chasing gaps in the clouds, at least there is not much risk of rain

Which one of you bought new gear!

Lot of fluffy stuff here. :(

Tuesday and Friday night is looking ok for you, I tend to use the map instead of the meteogram to predict where the cloud will be.

 That is optimism. I like it

8PM, no cloud anywhere near where I was pointing, some lightning in the distance, but moving away, and a few stars showing up.
9PM, the rain rolled in, moved my gear back under cover (the spot in the sky is still clear, just its raining where I am....)
I am still hoping it passes, but my chances are low.

At least got to check collimation and the like before it hit, good to know all my tweaking has been in the right direction.

Had rain and a bit of lightning here. I didn't set up. Just as well.:)
Shame coz the seeing is decent tonight.

It passed!, Cleared up, in the process of shooting through the gaps, lots of subs will go to waste, but in those gaps its great seeing. due to how close I am to Sydney, I'm just shooting at the moon, (light pollution + cloud reflection + full moon = really bad time for DSO), but even zoomed in its rock solid.

The meteorologist guys forecasted a long wet summer ( La Niña ) 6 months ago and they got it right
Since November I’ve only had 4 clear nights and a couple of half nights but it’s better than half the country on fire this time last year which was a summer we will never forget
The east coast is going to have these big low pressure fronts full of moisture pushing up the coast for a while yet.
Hopefully into the Autumn the pattern will change and the high’s will dominate and give us some stable dryer air masses
Anyway you have to take what your dished out and grab the opportunities
This week is looking poor with plenty of unstable weather again
Plenty of time for cleaning your gear , buying new gear , reading , collimating and aligning , labelling , refining processing and winging about the weather !!!

Sorry guys, it was my fault. My first refractor arrived a few days ago, right when the clouds moved in. Had to be. :(

So I dusted off the 3D printer and made myself some parts. Bahtinov mask, adapter for the red dot sight, holder for the intervalometer, etc.

Rain, rain keeps the bushfires away :D

FWIW, while we might get a bit of humidity up here, we don’t get 40 degree days..OK maybe once in a blue Moon. Even 35 degree days are few and far between...
