23rd Jan. The small sunspot group AR2798 and 2797 have moved across the Sun's disc towards the west, while a new small group AR2799 has appeared in the NW sector. Most activity for this year has been in the southern hemisphere but now we have a group in the northern hemisphere.

They are only small but my sky was steady so I took this single exposure thru my WO 81 mm scope with a Canon 550d camera and herschel wedge.

Thanks for viewing.

Well captured John. A fine image and record of these ARs. I have just picked up a SW102 Star Traveller and am hoping to try out with The Lunt wedge and my wifes Canon Rebel 1000. Wondered if you you could offer some ideas for camera settings?

Reply to Peter M, Just experiment with your set up - try different exposures until you find the one that works best. I used 1/200 sec at iso200. The advantage of a dslr camera is you can see your result straight away and if its no good - delete it. Best of luck.

That's an interesting capture John. I've not noticed too much activity in the north at all. Well done.

John,
Another good catch. Well done.

We were clouded out until lunch time, set up for some CaK shots but the seeing was absolutely terrible.
I’ll process what I have but not anticipating anything very exciting.

Nice captures John, I had a try imaging these sunspots but the results were not that great . Too much turbulence up here in Brisbane .

Nice, should try for a whole disk with a couple of shots, would be a bonus result
