Why are these Swarovski EL 8.5x 42 ... so expensive for a pair of binoculars....what so good about these
when ... I can get a Takahashi FOAQ60 for much less
I know which one I prefer,, buy a tube holder also and your still in front by a mile.
I'm not being disrespectful about the Binoculars OK

I think it’s a case of having to look through to appreciate the difference. The flat field and distortion free image right to the edge is a winner in my books. Wish I could afford a pair. I’m not sure it makes any sense to compare binoculars with a refractor though as they are completely different instruments. It really depends on the individual and what they are after and what they value more.
These binoculars are for hunting, birding and general outdoors and although you can use for astronomy, I’m not sure that buying them just for the latter would make sense but it may to someone although I feel that most buyers will be nature enthusiasts or hunters.

Wow Col, they sure are pricey, way out of my league however i expect they would give a perfect view IMHO

Col, the Swaros are as perfect a binocular as I have ever used but I am a bit rough on binoculars when out bushwalking so I opted for 90% image quality with Miyauchi 8x42 ED myself for a fraction of the price......

The Miyauchi are ' Top of the Range ' also ...light years ahead of my Meade 8 x 42's Glacier and Bushnell ' Trophy ' 8 x 42's.
Well I guess I need to look thru' a pair and rush to open my wallet. ;)
I'm just a casual observer with Bino's anyway, although I do like a decent pair.
Col, you do realise you'd be getting a double refractor right? :P

I have the EL 8x32 Col and are worth every penny no blackouts and all the other ugly things with binoculars and when you look through the Swaros you just know you have nowhere to go you have the very best.....
