My Galaxy obsession

Really nice set there, I must admit that I also have a strong desire (let's not call it an obsession - yet) to capture some galaxies from my back yard. Any details on capture would be appreciated (I assume the Optolong L is essential?)

Yes, all taken with the ED127 and ASI294MC Pro.

They're all between 5-15 hrs using the L-Pro filter. I'm not sure if that was of any benefit. It produces weird colour gradients that have to be processed out. May have to try different LP filters to suit my area.

A lot of crisp shots of Galaxies there. I notice some have that brownish look that I get with OSC where others have a much more black background. Perhaps the position in the sky relative to light sources or simply processing difference.

Well done and lucky you with so many clear nights
My only observation is the filter maybe restricting or inhibiting your images to bring out natural colour in stars and details in spiral arms. There does seem to be a common colour cast with most images
Maybe try without the filter next time ( even if your under suburban skies ?? )
When I image galaxies I’ve tried with and without a filter and the images are so much better in regards to colour without a filter.

I forgot to add ...
Obviously image galaxies without a filter during the “dark”
There’s a guy in Tokyo ( Cuiv ) who images galaxies in a white zone without filters during the dark, takes hundreds of 30 and 60 sec subs and produces incredible Galaxy images

Here’s one of my Galaxy images ( NGC 1365 The Great Barred Spiral Galaxy ) from Bortle 8 light polluted Sydney skies during the dark taking 180 x 90 sec subs without a filter
with my OSC 2600MC
I had no issue with processing colour in core, spiral arms and Star field , when I use a filter I can’t process the colour correctly, it has a dominant brown / tan cast through it

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, in my area of Western Australia we are blessed with many clear nights but in summer with suffer from strong and hot easterlies that affect guiding and seeing. The best seeing is on clear winter nights but those are also the coldest(5C to 7C in my area) which cause heavy dew and severely affect my comfort levels haha!

You are so right, I've had problems with the L-Pro filter under my local conditions causing weird and inconsistent colour gradients. Could try with just an IR Cut filter?

Looking forward to imaging these with a mono cam soon!
