NGC300 - Good tidings to all.

Hope we all enjoyed yesterday and not to many sore heads (or stomachs)!

To the attached image.

I have learnt that astro photography can come back and bite you.

You have it all working, and complacency sets in...

It was the only clear night in months so set to gathering Luminance data.

Slewed and centred on target, all good.

PHD reported polar alignment was out, scope must have been hit by washing on the line, or an inquisitive possum.

No worries, went out and adjusted the altitude bolts, fixed.

So we forgot to re centre the target, OOPS.

NGC30 now sits top right of frame, and went a bit fuzzy.

Pity about the misalignment, ,had the making of a fine NGC300 image. Now just repeat all the steps , without the flaying by the errant washing line or the frisky possum, if we ever get some clear skies again.

i know what you mean about complacency. it seems i gte everything working and think I've got ths, then some critical link in the chain always goes wobbly, mount tracking, focussing, filter reflections, did i mention focussing (auto of course) etc... for me it's not possums I actually have green tree frogs who love to crawl up on my scope and leap off...i kid you not :-)

You could smear the lower sections of the tripod legs with something slippery.

Lots of intriguing layers of colour in that object. The offset shows up some of the faint companions. Possums have made a comeback here too. Must be all of the green growth.
