Hi Guys, just out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen a cow sitting, not just a once off, but all the time.

As some of you know we are on a Farmstay helping to look after the farm with heaps of cattle and each time we see this lot in the paddock this particular one is sitting

There is nothing wrong with the animal, because as soon as we approach it is off.

Just wondering

I have seen it and it usually is related to some discomfort or pain in their front legs. If they have pain or swelling they will try and keep their legs straight.

I recall being told as a boy that sitting cows meant that they sensed rain was coming (they sit to keep some grass dry, or so the story goes).

One single cow sitting while others remain standing ... I dunno.

I had a calf like that. It could stand but walk onlY with difficulty. I was told it was probably incurable and would prevent it from feeding from its mother and it would not survive long. I euthanased it. Sad but necessary.

Talk to the local vet and get the cow checked. If it is in pain, it needs attention. I'm sure the owners will understand and reimburse you.

Bart, the owners of the property and the farm manager all know of this and are looking into it.
Thanks for your interest.
