Hey all,

I recently got a new battery for my astronomy set up (12V AGM). I finished putting it all together recently.

I was just wondering what the best method to testing the set up would be. I have already connected a voltmeter to it and the same current was recorded at the battery terminals and at the plug end of the cable.

So if you guys have any other methods to ensure it is safe to plug into my mount and other equipment, I would appreciate the response.

Regards,
Edward

Hi Edward

One suggestion - double check the polarity!

Then be paranoid and check it again!!

You really don't want the smoke to get out.

I'm no sparky, but I imagine an inline fuse would be a good idea too. I'd also pick up something like this (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200A-DC-Multifunction-Battery-Monitor-Meter-LCD-Display-Digital-Current-Voltage/154210562924?hash=item23e7aa736c:g: MXwAAOSwx4JfHqZP) battery meter to keep an eye on things and keep that battery healthy.

I agree.
I use a 12v 120ah battery in my camper trailer and added a circuit breaker and some anderson plugs to the battery box.
I can either connect to an anderson plug on the trailer or put the battery into the car boot and use it that way.
Hope it helps
cheers
