Knurling service?

Hey all,

Any one know where I can get a steel bar knurled in Sydney preferably around botany? Or pre-made knurled steel bar?

I've rung and contacted several steel and metal places and fabricators but unfortunately no one can do it. Not even sure which profession would be provide such a service?

It's for a direct drive shaft for my EQ platform.

You would be looking for an engineering/machining shop that does jobbing work with lathes. They’ll do one offs and the like. Im curious why you need knurling work on a drive shaft, is it under size an needing building up for a tighter fit?

Drive shaft may not have been the right term. I have an VNS style EQ platform for my dobsonian and the drive system is based on friction between the shaft and the curved segment. Aluminium shaft works a charm after being scuffed with a file for one night before it smooths out. Steel shaft filed works well but the hard to get the shaft perfectly round so thought I might as well get it professionally done and know that that part of the platform is on point.

I solved my problem (slippage) with higher pressure between wheels (stronger springs). You can try with heavier load? Or pre-load with springs? Less grease?
dip shaft in epoxy glue and sprinkle it with sand from sand-paper? Wrap sand-paper around shaft?
Use shaft from old printer, they are treated with grit to increase friction with paper.
I would advise against knurling, as un-evenness may cause problems with tracking, and knurls are usually very coarse.
