My first time ever on Orion last night :) I had been waiting eagerly for this target to start rising early enough to be a viable imaging target and that time is here :D

The core is obviously super bright so I took some shorter exposures as well to retain those details.

60x120"
60x15"
30x10"
Bias, flats, darkflats, no darks (dithered aggressively)

Esprit 80 and ASI533 w/ UV/IR Cut.

Quick march, off to the main forum. We'll run out of beginners at this rate.

An absolutely stunning image Craig.

You have done absolutely the right thing mixing it up with the shorter exposures, and it shows.

Make sure you back up your data, and send it off to the printer.

Well done!

Spectacular image. The detail is extraordinary for that exposure.

Thanks, although the calibre of work there is intimidating!

Cheers. Having been in the photography game for a long time before I started doing astrophotography, backup is a routine I am well acquainted with. All data lives on a NAS with a backup routine to cloud and local external HDD :)

Thanks. I was surprised how much 2 hours gave, but then I suppose it is a very bright target.

I've actually pre-processed it as I realised I'd blown out the stars a bit too much with my original process. Here's the new version, I tried to keep the overall consistency of the image, just fixing the stars.

Cheers all. Looking forward to adding more data to it - hopefully soon :)
