I stumbled on this project (https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/707438-guidoino-first-real-stand-alone-autoguider-based-on-arduino/) while searching for auto-guider options...
Anyone tried anything similar?
Long time ago I was playing with TC237 (CCD sensor), it almost worked...
Today, with faster processors and Arduino platform, it should be easy to overcome many problems I had then...

Without knowing the more detail nuances of this setup, im wondering what advantage it has over a Synguide or Nexguide ? Yes they use a small controller for setup but can be disconnected once running. They run off a small battery pack although I ran mine connected to my mount power supply. They really are a stand alone system and in my experience they work quite well.

This is an all-in-one self-contained autoguider. It’ll be more suited for trackers with portability in mind for travelers than full blown scopes.

My application was written for SiLab processor F330, it was developed to track the laser beam (for drilling straight holes in the ground), so the task was very similar to astroguiding, and based on what was mentioned on CN discussion, the algorithms used are similar - I also first found a square of n-pixels where the bright spot was located and then generated voltage for hydraulics based on spot position inside that square (to speed up the process.. the scan of the whole frame took 1.5 seconds due to processor speed).
Maybe I will try again one day, when/if time permits.. there are so many things I would like to finish before I kick the bucket :D
EDIT: I just remembered I wrote about it on this forum (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=37144) 12 years ago.. how time flies, it is unbelievable.
