Been a while since I took an image.

I had some trouble processing this one. There are faint jets emanating from the galaxy and getting these to show up without blowing out the galaxy was tricky.
Taken at Wiruna over the last new moon period.

Description:
NGC 1097 is a Seyfert galaxy, harbouring a supermassive black hole in its centre. There are four mysterious jets in an X shape centred on the nucleus. Two of these pointing to the upper right corner of the image are easily seen here. The upper one has a right angle bend and is often referred to as the "Dogleg". There is a faint suggestion of a third jet to the left of the image opposite the fainter one on the right. This is readily seen in the inverted view.

Cool galaxy that one Geoff, nice and colourful. Those jets are quite faint, so hard to show well (incidentally, there are actually 4 when you go deep enough), nice work mate .

How's Wiruna? I was pleased to hear Joe got up there and hit the skies :( :)

How superb is that! And it was very clear that weekend. Let me go back and gaze at your image again - lots to take in... :)

Excellent picture Geoff.
Wiki says -

"the jets are actually the shattered remains of a cannibalized dwarf galaxy."

Thanks Peter, John and Greg. I wasn’t sure about the colours but I think they just stop short of being too much.

Thanks Mike. Maybe I’ll go after that elusive 4th jet sometime. Joe seems OK

Thanks Kevin and Marcus

Cheers Paul. It did turn out better than I expected when I started the processing

Thanks Allan

Magnificent work Geoff. Those jets are super-faint. You've got them as clear can be.

We've never gotten around to doing it in colour. Your image shows much colour detail in the bright core. Well done.

Best regards from grassy Euchareena!

That's great stuff. Those jets, especially the bent one, are bizarre

Thanks M&T. The elusive 4th jet still eludes me.

Thanks Chris. The bent one is really a puzzle. I haven’t come across any explanation for its shape.
