Hi All

A bit more activity on the sun of late, some very nice active regions ( sunspots ) with some prominences thrown in for good measure.
White light image with a homemade 100mm Baader filter on an 127mm f 1200mm achro.
Ha images with an 100mm PST Stage 1 conv.
Camera , ZWO 290mc , best 100 frames of 1000, PIPP, Autostakkert, Registax

Have more video files to process but having trouble aligning the frames in the software, more so than usual.

Mate I love the detail in the middle red image . Jeff lost for words with all three images.

Thanks Kuz, much appreciated. The red images were obviously taken with the Ha, PST conversion telescope.

Jeff
These are excellent Solar images and deserve to be elevated out of the beginner section
Resolution and detail superb
Well done !!!

Absolutely spectacular solar imaging- love the prominences- mesmerising.
Jeff, I’ve had a go recently at solar imaging - it is risky business but glad to try. Question - the ha filter I’m tipping is a dedicated solar ha filter am I right- not to be confused with a dso narrowband ha filter?

Great stuff, I second Martin's comment.

Great images, it's very interesting to see the same regions captured with different scopes and filters.

I have a Baader wedge, but I have never used it, maybe I should give it a go.

Thanks for your interest in the images, in answer to some of your feedback, Startrek, Anth10, Raymo, The reason I post here instead of in the other imaging section, though I have done that also, is mainly because no one else posts solar stuff here and if people new to the madness of astronomy and imaging only look here they may not otherwise see solar images so I've got a captive audience, so to speak.

The filtering system for Ha solar narrows the bandpass to 1 nm, thus allowing prominences, filaments and other features to be seen and not drowned out by all the other wavelengths. If a double stacked system, then the bandpass is 0.5 nm. so that the photosphere detail is easier to see.
Ha deep sky filters are not suitable for solar observing, their bandpasss is way too wide, though it does seem that for smaller apertures a 2" 35nm Ha filter can be used as an ERF ( Energy Rejection Filter) the first filter at the objective end of the solar telescope. You would still need a tuneable Etalon filter and the final Blocking filter. These are what is in the PST black box , that can be converted to fit the rear of a larger apertured refractor as long as a suitable ERF is fitted over the objective of the scope to be used.
There are many websites that explain the set ups much better than I.
