Hi guys has anyone any experience with this pier tripod?
https://skywatcheraustralia.com.au/product/heq5-pier-tripod/

Not many info about it in googleverse so would appreciate if anyone got any first hand experience with it. Not even sure if it is still possible to get one but still - one can always try.
I would like to use it as permanent thing on my balcony and just remove mount head of my AZEQ5 as it is really annoying to fetch and align a tripod each time I want to observe - or take photos.

So if anyone can let me now if happy - or not, if it is stable enough - or not and if it is or can be filled with sand, cement, lead, dark matter... or or luck there.
Thanks

Hi, I haven't seen that particular portable pier, but that design was pretty well standard for large scopes until the 1990's. I think they phased them out because the tripod was a cheaper alternative. I have found them very stable especially with larger scopes. Here's a pic of my HEQ5pro (with 10" f4.8 on top) on an adapted cave optical (1970"s) portable pier. I have since moved to a bolt down pier. I leave the mount on it and cover it with a plastic bin on top between imaging sessions.

Cheers Rick - especially like your plastic bin cover solution :)
Bolting it down would be great but for some reason I don't think my wife or strata would agree... hence my desire to fill it up with something heavy instead.

The portable pier is not bolted down, its just sitting on pavers and its very stable as is. The bin is on top of my newer bolt down pier.
