So long Mars,
It's really shying away from its stunning opposition in early October.
I took Melbourne's fine weather as a chance to shoot an image afocal one last time using a canon s110 Powershot using eyepiece projection using a 5mm Tak and a B&W image from my ZWO guide cam combined.

Impressive result using a technique not seen here very often, using a compact camera. Most will give it a go with their mobile phone and usually on the moon. You've taken it further by using the little Canon S110 afocally on a planet and proved this form of astrophotography not only works but also produces great results. Combining the images from two cameras is an interesting method to improve the detail. Well done!

Cheers Michael,
I guess where there a will...

It is an alternative that I’ve learnt to accept however I will be looking forward to upgrading to a one shot colour ccd cam in the future.
The combination of a good quality b&w takes care of the fine detail whilst the moderately detailed afocal shot with the compact allows a brush of colour to enhance the overall pic.

It’s fiddly work but happy with the outcome all the same.

Regards,
Anthony

Great capture Anthony and clever use of the two cameras. There's certainly some distinct surface details visible.

Cheers LIS,
I’ve enjoyed watching Mars so close - the next decent opposition is in 2022 and then it diminishes significantly in angular size till 2033....
