Hi All

Having seen all the great images of the sun taken today by others, I thought it best if I posted up here in the beginners area again. AR 2781 continues to revolve around into a better view and give off small "C" class flares. Were also some nice proms around the limb as a bonus.

Jeff, WTSolar is going on?? These are really good images, Bravo! So why in the beginners section? Not that that is anything wrong with that, it's just I can now appreciate how hard it is to get these. Those proms look fabulous and you have some nice detail in the AR. I say stick em in the Solar System section for an IIS record of this super AR event.

I still choose to post in this section as, hopefully, an inspiration to the less experienced imagers or even visual members that solar observing and imaging is interesting and doable.
Do I think that my images are worthy of submitting to the Solar System section, maybe but I am my own worst critic I suppose. It is heartening to see more solar work being submitted though, especially as the new cycle is starting to ramp up in activity.
A big acknowledgement goes to Merlin for his help and inspiration on getting me started on more than basic PST solar viewing although I've had white light filters for many years.

The filters used are actually the black box of an PST scope that contains the tuneable Etalon and the Blocking Filter and is inserted in the focuser of an 102mm f9 achro with an 90mm Baader Energy Rejection Filter fitted in front of the objective. Called a Stage 1 PST conversion.
