So when is an asteroid really valuable: I mean to the tune of 10 Million Trillion Dollars, that's $10,000,000,000,000,000,000? That's many many many times world GDP !!!

It's when it's 220km in diameter and made predominantly of Iron and Nickel and of course you have the gall to mine it. Article follows......

What was that book ,Blue Mars I think , where an asteroid was towed into stationary orbit around Mars to serve as materials for a space elevator down to the surface.?

I think in the story the Mars separatists blew it up.

At the moment I can't see it ever being economical to mine it.
The Earth has hundreds of years left of iron ore.
Titanium, I don't know much about ,so I looked it up;)
