Here's one of the streams stack I took Thursday to Friday night of better seeing before all the rain in Sydney. I used an IR cut on the ASI462MC this time so managed to get colors that are probably closer to what it's supposed to look like.

Marc, that turned out nice and smooth without the over sharpening that can look too artificial. The colour still looked a bit on the blue side to me so I hope you don't mind me doing a quick filter application on my mobile phone to tone it down a bit. ;) I think it's a really nice capture. Well done.

The 462MC sensor is much more sensitive to blue than other sensors. Based on previous measurements, I reckon the colour balance settings to use (in FireCapture at least) are Wred = 69, Wblue = 86 (with Wgreen set to 0).

Hope this helps,

Thanks mate. Yeah it does look better. I was wondering about all that blue too.

Thanks Andrew. Yes that's the settings I use in FC during capture. I must have pushed the blues during processing. Now I know not too.

hi marc,

looking good mate! nice work.
I think the green mid point could go down a little bit and then the blue could go down more to reflect the truer luminosity in these channels but great detail and colour! the IR cut has worked a treat.
also nicely done showing surface detail and clouds.

cheers

Yes I'm waiting to find the right color balance before I apply it to the rest of the shots and do some animations.

Cool shot.
Interesting discussion about the colour balance - I could barely get any blue out of my image at all (with the exception of some atmospheric dispersion around the limb. )

Thanks Pete. Yeah lack of blue is usually my problem but this camera has the same red, green and blue response at higher wavelengths and apparently a lot of color leaks between channels after talking to a few people so I'm going to try to bin it 2x2 and use a filter wheel instead. I also need to increase the SNR in my frames so shoot longer at lower gain to improve APs alignment in AS!3. Getting there...

Here's a repro of one of the frames which I think is alright with colors and the level of details. Going to try to batch the remaining frames now with the same settings and do an animation.
