New OSC Filter

I picked up a second hand IR/UV L2 filter for my 183c. Thanks Brett.

Around midnight got an hour or so to test on Sculptor Galaxy and Orion and it does cut the star bloat and allows a higher gain with little less light.

15x2min and 5x5min at gain 100. Also a quick 5x5 Orion when the mount flipped.

Not as clear as JP's RGB Sculptor but getting there.

I really like the colour that you're getting in your galaxy there, Ray. Is this with the FS102?
Its looking good, and I think it shows some more detail in the centre of the galaxy than mine does.

Thanks JP. The colour is pretty arbitrary. Good Time of year for the Sculptor as you showed and there have been some other good ones in Deep Space.

Yes the FS102 with some amateur tweaking of the collimation.
A better galaxy match for the 183 than the 200 newt I think.

Some nice images there, especially NGC 253 , well framed , captured and processed with very little data
Not sure about filters with galaxies though , my Duoband plays havoc with the colour when I shoot galaxies in Sydney, so I only shoot them down the coast in the dark with my 8” ( no filters )
On the other hand the Duoband has been tremendous in Sydney ( Bortle 8 ) imaging nebula etc...

Thanks Marc and Martin. The UV IR really does make the small OSC more equivalent to the mono result where you are not using any other filters.

So now I have a more equal choice of fields on the refractor ,although not as much sensitivity , at a fairly low cost. I wonder what will happen when I stack the UV IR Filter with a Ha filter.

Your histogram for M42 is very unbalanced - see graph 1.


I took the liberty and balanced them, see graph 2. Unfortunately, it is black clipped, (see graph left edge), which I can't fix without the original data.

Thanks Lewis.. Looks better. I did see that but did not worry too much as it was just a quick filter test. I will give it another run though to I see if I can get those peaks to align and post a link to the result.

A little soft in focus late in the night now i look at it. . Don't think I had the dew heater turned up enough.
