Just saw a trailer on Fox. A new movie (out on April 12th) - about a mission to the sun to re-ignite it after it petered out for some reason.

This looks quite good - directed by Danny Boyle and the same blokes that did Trainspotting and a couple of others. Production values are pretty high as the directors tried to use as many high-quality stage-effects as they could rather than relying solely on CGI.

Here's the trailer: http://www.worstpreviews.com/trailer.php?id=30&item=0

Good to see more big-budget science fiction......especially when it looks as promising as this does. :)

Cheers

The trailer looks reasonably good.. but didn't we only just have a movie about the sun a year ago or something?

Roger - are you thinking about the movie where the crew had to drill down under the Earth's mantle in order to set off a chain of nuclear detonations to re-start the core's movement?

Can anyone else see the chain here.....

1st we ignite an inbound asteroid in Armagedon....
2nd we ignite the Earths core...
3rd we ignite the Sun...

Anyone think some director got caught once too often playing with matches???

And can anyone else picture the directors planing the next movie.... "hmm what left to ignite.... I know how about the galaxy.... yeah lets restart the Galaxy... we can even get Bruce Willis to fly the Space Shuttle into a worm hole with no return and a nuke or two to restart it all.... wow what a show..."

:lol2: good one shredder!!..lets see now..they covered nearly all of the space nasties scenerio's...except...a black hole devouring the Solar System!!...can you imagine the trailer blurb..(given by a well-known world leader of course!!)
"Well..I ain't lettin no outer space vacumm cleaner suck up this planet goddamit!!"...or words to that effect!!...
Sunshine is on my "to see" list.

You can just see it.....

"Must be some commie plot that black hole that s heading towards us.....damn that anti gravety machine they invented, they will same themselves and leave the rest of us to go to ....."

Followed by

"I know, lets reserect Bruce Willis, let clone him and send him off to blow up the black hole.... and heres a twist, lets throw in a whole bunch of decrepit old astronauts to go with him...."

Actually in truth I liked Space Cowboys... didnt think much of armagedon though.

Roger you may be thinking of 'solaris' with george clooney - it was a flop btw and it wasnt our sun/star featured, altho i did love the ambient music/soundtrack - as a music lover that can save a bad movie for me - sometimes :help:
I look forward to 'sunshine' :D clever title :screwy:

Maybe in the next batch of movies, the Sun might be getting hotter, threatening to cook the Earth and they have to fly to the Sun with a 'Mega Fire Extinguisher Ship' to reduce the temp a few million degrees.

Cast - Bruce Willis, Chuck Yeager, Sandra Bullock, Buzz Aldrin, Yoda, C3PO, Will Smith, and starring Bozo the Clown as the Morale Officer.

LOL!! Is it really important? It's "fantasy" - which is what most sci-fi is. Is the science of Star Trek plausible? For the most part - I'm not sure that tachyon beams and dilithium crystals are ...uhmm... real science... but that doesn't detract from the "watchability" of Star Trek for me. "Real science" ties the fantasy down to reality - and what's the fun of that?

PS: "Sci-Fi" - Science fiction

Nah - it's been done before! The Irish have already landed an astronaut on the sun.

"But", you say, "didn't he get burnt up?" No, the Irish are not that silly...he went at night...

Yes...I have a strong Irish background...to be sure, to be sure...

Re the black hole movie - Disney did it back in 1979 actually.
Movie name?? The Black Hole, of course!

Wow - just seen a "downloaded" version. What a flick. Scary, impressive, majestic and downright dark. Very well done - I think it'll become a cult classic. The music and sound are incredible. The acting is natural, and from what I can see a bunch of unknowns. They did a great job.

Cheers

I stand corrected...I was looking forward to it and very excited. It had huge potential, acting was good, SFX were fantastic...but it got all weird and cryptic at the end..a bit of a let down IMHO.;)

I agree with you on the ending Barry - it was a might trancendental. One of my favourite movies of all time - "2001 a Space odyssey" was much the same the first time I saw it in 1968. I guess watching it a few more times will give me a clearer picture.
