Hi all,

This is the Helix nebula NGC 7293. The Helix nebula is a planetary nebula located in Aquarius.

I captured this over 1 session 18/09/20.

30 x 300s
30 x darks
30 x flats
30 x dark flats
gain 100
offset 50
temp -10

captured in NINA
Orion eon 115mm F7
ASI 2600
processed in APP and i finished off with photoshop.

there is a higher resolution image here:

heck yeah, thats nice! clean and smooth.

Are you still mucking around with gain and offset on the 2600? Or settled on 100/50?

Jack,
I'm very impressed with your results....
You're achieving a high level of capability with your scope and camera.
Keep up the great work, well done!

Thanks Merlin and JP for your comments, i appreciate the comments you have both made.

JP, see a detailed reply to Startrek's comment re: the gain 100 situation on the picture i did just recently with the comet C/2020 M3.

but basically, i started with 100 and keep getting decent results so haven't changed.
My intention is to try gain 0 next session i get and see if there is noticeable improvement.

thanks

That’s a super image of the Helix
Well done !
In regard to the 2600MC I think there’s so many variables with gain , off set , temperature , sky conditions etc... the only way to find a sweet spot on this camera is to get out there and image as much as you can on all objects and conditions, maybe after a year we may find that sweet spot or a few sweet spots
I’ve yet to image the Helix at my bortle 3 dark site ( I’ve only imaged it in Sydney with the filter ) so when the moon buggers off in a week or so I might give it a whirl
In regards to Gain , one thing I noticed was that when I open Ascom and choose my camera both Highest Dynamic Range and Unity Gain selections have the same Gain 0 and offset 10. Seems strange so I posted an enquiry on the ZWO forum. When I select Lowest Read Noise the Gain and offset are different
Hope ZWO can explain this
I use APT for my capture software

Thanks h0ughy,Peter and Martin.
Great comments from you guys, much appreciated.

Martin, my settings come up different than what you are getting.
I am using NINA and have just connected up to check.
ASCOM driver.
HDR=0 gain offset 50
unity gain=0 gain offset 50
lowest read noise=100 gain offset 50

i don't have APT to check what it is in that.

It will be interesting what ZWO come up with.

thanks

Nice work Jackstar,
Processing is very good and you’ve brought out detail in the outer shell also.
I like it

Jack
A common link here is that your Ascom Unity Gain value and offset and Highest Dynamic Range value and offset are the same in NINA and the same as mine in APT
I don’t why both NINA and APT show Unity and HDR with same gain and offset values
Still waiting for a reply from ZWO
