To quote from one of the reference sheets (https://www.qhyccd.com/index.php?m=c...=94&id=9&cut=3 (https://www.qhyccd.com/index.php?m=content&c=index&a=show&catid=94&id=9&cut=3))

Does this mean that the pixel is larger by virtue of the 2x2 binning (ie the actual pixel is smaller??) or that the final image has an effective pixel size of 2 x 4.63 micron???
Confused!!!!!!!!!!!

"Exceptional low-illumination performance of SNR1s: 0.14 lx is realized by use of a large-size optical system and by expanding the area per pixel to 4.63 μm

The IMX294CJK uses a Quad Bayer structure, and outputs data binned in 2 × 2 pixel units in normal mode."

It’s a ~47MP sensor with 2.3 micron pixels. As a standard it is a quad bayer (RRGGGGBB) with an effective 4.6 micron pixel after the 2x2 binning (making a RGGB).

What Colin said. The binning is on-chip meaning its proper hardware binning not the software binning the other models offer which is less effective.

In that mode its 11mp x 4.63 micron pixels.
