IMPORTANT NOTE: I attempted to clean the internal side of the lens, as small flecks of paint fell into the tube when adjusting the focuser fit. In doing so, I caused minor damage to the optical coatings because of the cleaning material used.
Therefore, either the coatings can be restored, there is a service that can do this and the cost in doing so will come to less than the cost of a new ED120 equipped with a Moonlite focuser. They can copy the exact coating on the external edge. They are also superior quality to the Skywatcher coatings.
Or, it can be used purely for visual use for which it is perfectly fine.
Alternatively, the minor aberrations caused by the damaged coatings can be compensated for with a properly created set of light frames.
Pro Tip: Do not use a product called “Magic Sponge” on any optics!
