This is Corona Australis from Corona Central (https://www.astrobin.com/full/y9q9ci/0/), stage 4 lockdown - Melbourne.

Attempting the impossible - LRGB imaging from my Bortle 7 backyard in Lockdown Stage 4, Melbourne, Australia. :help:

Like the beer, it's thin and not enough data/guts and bloody difficult to process out the LP gradients - that being said whilst nothing like Rodney & Ben's recent images and it's no prize winner, I'm reasonably happy with this under the circumstances! :) Good processing practice and it seems that I've also tamed the faithful Tak NJP mount to track within .5 arc/sec now :P

The star-forming region around NGC 6726 in the southern constellation of Corona Australis (Southern Crown) about 400 – 500 light years distant is a complex association of dust, beautiful blue reflection nebula and unusual objects referred to as Herbig-Haro (HH) objects.

NGC 6726/6727 and IC 4812 are blue reflection nebulae, where bright stars are embedded in a large cloud of dust which reflects the blue light of the stars.

NGC 6729 is a butterfly-shaped emission/reflection object that is a variable nebula, powered by the irregular variable star, R Coronae Australis (R CrA). R CrA was discovered about 100 years ago. HH objects are shown as delicate, small arcs of glowing gas. They originate as energetic outflows from embryonic stars that are still forming and cloaked inside gas and dust. Bernes 157 is dark nebula that is so dense that stars inside the nebula and behind it cannot shine through. (Astrodon)

Sounds gritty.

So long as no Victorians died making this image, all is good

Overall quite a good result there Andy, with all the hallmarks of being taken with a high quality APO ;). Heck, just the idea of attempting this object from suburban Melbourne, is well, frankly, the realm of a 70's Thrill Seeker, so considering, its bloody great

Cheers Lewis, I probably sacrificed a few well meaning but misplaced photons, but managed to save most of the others :D

Lol, thanks very much Mike- it’s an awkward time of year to be in lockdown as most of the NB targets are well in the west.
Would love to be at my mates’ property in Kilmore targeting this an a few galaxies, but for now, well c’est la vie!
Cheers! :)

Ah...yes your image title has memories of youth...but I prefer a six star hotels these days ;)

The only thing that would make this image better would be staying put with 10x more exposure,
or fleeing Melbourne to a dark site. Both would be a challenge (let's also call a spade a spade here...
draconian rules that prevent you sitting in the middle of no-where with a 'scope and camera, then going straight home,
do absolutely nothing to prevent this virus :mad2:).

.....plus the result,: pretty dammed good as is.

Certainly looks like you have tamed the beast after some initial wrinkles!

Thanks Peter, I really appreciate your encouragement :)

Slowly but surely James, it's been a loong bumpy road, but once I've finished it will smooth as glass :)

Nice one Andy! It's a bit thin as you say, but otherwise very nice.

Yes, more data needed of course, but it's a great image in the making Andy! I remember LP gradients only too well and you've obviously done well to mitigate them!

Ron, Lee, Marcus, thanks for your encouragement - it's a fair dinkum hard challenge to do decent broadband from light pollutionville - dunno how Peter Ward does it so well
I'm ready to move on to more familiar NB territory next. :D

Again, thanks for the kind words - very uplifting in these hard lockdown times.

Well done Andy!
If only they would turn all the lights off in Melbourne for you!
Good job of coping with the gradients.

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks Tim :)
I don't think we need anymore restrictions here in Melbourne though
