Having grown up watching Bugs, Daffy, Marvin etc I couldn't resist.

First proper go at Mars this opposition. Unfortunately seeing was average. Still, you can see the south polar cap and north polar hood of clouds as well as some surface details like Syrtis Major Planum.

In my opinion the ZWO ASI 120MC is a great planetary camera. Just wish the chip was bigger. I find the colour is better than with the ASI 294MC Pro.

Hope to get better images over the next month. Fingers crossed for some good seeing.

Nice work, some good detail there. What telescope was that with?

Hi Nick,

12-inch F5 Newtonian with a Televue 3x Barlow.

Richard.

That's awesome Richard. I tried that too the other night but couldn't focus properly.

Have you ever tried with your DSLR? I'm using a Canon 60D (also got a 600D) through a 10 inch Newtonian. I might have to get one of those ZWO type cameras, are they noticeably better than what you can get with a DSLR?

you need to add an ircut filter to the 294 to get the proper colour, the 120mc has one built in.

Very good shots on display there Richard and promising for what’s to come in October’s opposition.

I’d like your opinion on the Televue 3x. I am contemplating whether to get one or a 2.5x powermate. I have a 10” Newt and want to use my ZWO asi290mm mini with it. I normally run my 60D canon but want to try something different.

Good work, and good luck with more Martian action.

In my humble opinion I think the ZWO is better than a DSLR. I have both and prefer the ZWO. Also the 120MC is relatively not that expensive. Hope this helps.

I have both and think the 3x Barlow is better. But again that is just my opinion. Can I also say that good seeing is so important when it comes to planetary imaging.

Richard.

Thanks Richard. I guess the bonus with the 3x is that is produces a slightly longer focal length- I agree on the seeing too- in fact this is key over and above the gear you run as it greatly improves any image by a long shot.
