M17 Swan (Omega) Nebula in Colour

Here’s a colour version of my previous post

Nebula - Artistic Detail Aware RGB Ratio
Star Field - Scientific Colour Constancy RGB Ratio

Mono version definitely exposes more fine detail than the colour ( and more residual smeared noise as well )

I have spent quite a bit of time studying this field on Astrobin etc.

And the range of hues is almost endless.

Your image is better than most I have seen, so well done.

It would be interesting to see a close up crop of the brightest star, to have a look at the diffraction spike colours.

Hoping to get back down south during October to start my observatory plus some dark sky imaging with the new camera and the 8” newt
Ordered a Nexdome from Sidereal Trading
Deck and piers getting built early October, Dome lands in early November
Should be up and running before Xmas , fingers crossed

You need plenty of clear nights to test these filters, so many variables

By the way my proposed new Obs is only a 2.3m dome , so just enough room for me to squeeze my little butt in there and set up for the night , hardly room to have a star party.......... joking of course

Unless you inherited the dome, wouldn't it have been cheaper and easier
to erect a sliding roof one with more room?

The backyard at my weekender has only a 6m depth , very tight
The Nexdome is a perfect fit without blocking off the whole yard
I can reuse my existing outdoor laptop workstation and drum stool as it will fit perfectly inside the bay unit of the dome ( photo of existing outdoor workstation
and rig less DSLR as I have my ZWO cooled OSC now , this photo is 6 months old )
Also my 8” newt and EQ6-R mount fit with room to spare , I can even upgrade later ( if I choose to do so ) to an EQ8-R mount and 10” f5 newt

I can choose between totally automating the dome remotely , semi automate it or manually control it with a push button control which is my preferred method

Good point , I did originally consider a RORo obs but the missus would have cut off my Astro budget as she didn’t want another ugly big shed in the backyard , gotta keep the missus happy ( she’s not into astronomy, except when teaching the topic at school , part time primary teacher)
At least the Nexdome looks the part and suits my needs perfectly
I’ll post some progress photos once I get started in 3 or 4 weeks
