Uploading videos into Autostakkert 3

Hi,
I seam to having a bit of an issue uploading my video into Autostakkert 3

This is my first time attempting to take a video of Jupiter and processing it.

So the camera i am using is the Canon EOS 5DSR
I have downloaded the video from the camera onto my PC
I then opened up Autostakkert 3 and went to load the video into it

So after clicking on the open icon and then locating the video file on my PC,
Autostakkert tells me it can't read the file, the message comes back saying:
Could not open file 0E4A2853.MOV.AS! can only open uncompressed AVI or SER files, use PIPP for example to transform the file into something AS! can read.

So after all that, I am guessing the video that the Canon makes is not suitable for Autosatkkert to read or i have the camera video settings incorrect?
I have the movie rec. settings at 1920x1080 25 fps Editing (ALL-I ) FHD
the other options are:
1920x1080 25 fps Standard (IPB) FHD
640x480 24 fps Standard (IPB) VGA
1280x720 50 fps Editing (ALL-I) HD
1280x720 50 fps Standard (IPB) HD

Under image quality i have it set to RAW and JPEG, but think this setting only really relates to images not video, could be wrong there though.

Video system is set to PAL

I thought i could just transfer the image straight from my camera onto my PC, then straight from the PC into this program,
Do i have it wrong and have to have another program to change the video into something Autostakkert can read?

Any ideas or information on what i might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Peter,
You need some means of converting the .mov DSLR files to the acceptable SER or AVI file formats.
I don’t use the DSLR video, so, sorry I can’t offer suggestions.

No worries, Sounds like i just need a program then to transfer the MOZ file that the DLSR makes into a AVI file.
But the trick to do it without loosing information or resolution is the key.

I’ve been reading some info on Autostakkert and BYEOS and 2 programs that might work in converting your high frame rate MOV files to readable AVI files for loading into Autostakkert are -

PIPP
VirtualDub ( free down load )

There are are few others but they are not Astro based programs

Hi Peter, the best way to use your Canon DSLR for planetary is to connect it to a laptop via the USB port and record the LiveView stream at 5x zoom using a program like BackyardEOS.

Oh, and PIPP will convert the video file for you, but you will get far better results using the LiveView stream (this is how I started).

I got some good information in regards to AutoStakkert in converting MOV files into AVI files so that Autostakkert can read them.
Just thought i would share the information in case some others are also having the same problem.
Apparently all you have to do is,
Download FFMPEG 64-bit for windows:

Unzip the file.
Put the exe in the same directory as the exe for AutoStakkert
That's it.

A few are saying the same exact thing.
Hope this helps a few other out also.

I should of mentioned that there is a few steps involved in it.
Just done it myself and worked a charm, opens MOV files now, no need for a separate program.

So basically you download the program from the link that i have updated.

Then you will get a compressed file called ffmpeg-4.3.1-win64-static.zip

When you click on that, you get a folder called ffmpeg-4.3.1-win64-static

When you click on that you get 3 folders and 2 what looks like documents.
Folder 1 is called bin
Folder 2 is called doc
Folder 3 is called presents.

Click on Folder 1 ( bin )
you get 3 exe files ffmpeg.exe ffplay.exe ffprobe.exe

Unzip or extract the file ffmpeg.exe

Then transfer this file over to the AutoStakkert file.

Now when you open up Autostakkert and click on the MOV file you want to open, it works like a charm.

You just prompted me to read my ebook from Jerry Lodriguss (A Guide to DSLR Planetary Imaging ) there was a whole page dedicated to converting MOV to AVI and he mentioned about installing FFMpeg into the same directory as Autostakkert
