Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Neptune - 14 Sep 2020

Melbourne had some nice weather 2 nights ago, as can be seen by a number of people posting from here :). Callisto's shadow was crossing Jupiter while the GRS and the latest storm was also in view. I tried taking an extended video of Saturn, recording for 15 minutes and then using WinJupos to remove the field and planetary rotation from the video. then using normal processing techniques to stack the best 10,000 out of the 90,000 frames captured. The C-ring is visible, and also maybe the Enke Gap (but it may well be just a processing artifact). Mars is getting better, Neptune came out nicely but I got too tired to stay up for Uranus.

Jupiter shown at captured size, Saturn and Mars at 150% captured, Neptune and Triton at 200% captured, Triton artificially brightened and enlarged, colour cast not yet optimised (still working on that ;)).

Nice work Andrew, all the images look well captured and processed.

Have you considered using a 3x barlow? This will give you a larger image scale and the 9.25 can deliver the light you need to get high speeds.

A great set of images Andrew, glad you had good seeing for the night. The Callisto shadow transit shows what I missed out on because of cloud, was the last Callisto of the season as far as I know. As far as capturing the Encke, whether it is the Gap or an artifact, it is in the right area and there are lots of other images taken lately that have the "processing artifact" in the same spot.

Thanks Paul, I'm already over-sampling the ASI224MC with the 2.5x PM which gives me an effective focal ratio around f/21, while the optimum focal ratio for the ASI224MC with its 3.75 micron pixel size is around f/19. According to the maths, I won't get any more resolution from a higher focal ratio if I tried a 3x Barlow especially since I would most likely get a higher magnification factor than 3 if I used it.

Always very impressed with your skills to image in 9.25 inch. A derotation of Saturn was processed very nicely! I want to get those colours in Saturn..
