The moon - SBS 8:30 PM tonight

The civilization show before it (before the Sun last week) should be on again this week before the Moon I think I hope.

I was lucky and got to see the show (and the one before it on SBS). Both shows worth turning on the TV. And as I was thinking it was a show on our Moon was even happier to find that they did not limit the show to our Moon but covered Moons of other planets within our system.
It was interesting in the show before the reference to a great flood in their world predating even the bible so it seems the flood story had a solid foundation.
It was interesting to hear that data is still being gathered from the Moon and that we live in a time in history to have the privilege of seeing the Moon blot out the Sun and that in time future generations will not get to see same.

That was one of the moments which stood out for me too.

Even though I was aware the moon was gradually receding at the rate of a few centimetres per year, I had never given thought to the long-term consquence of what that meant vis-a-vis solar eclipses.

As the doco pointed out, we are indeed fortunate to live at a time when the moon is at such a distance as to create this phenomena.

At some point in the future these events will be discussed in almost myth-like tones. People will talk of a time when these things once occurred. Our time!

It made me think I really should chase one of these events down in my lifetime:thumbsup:

I liked the idea of leaving something on the Moon so as to be able to say Hi to the huminiods of the future who may come across same when mining or excavating foundations for a block of flats... as I mentioned recently our time is a marker that humans will mark as a very special part of their history indeed the history of life really.
You are right about the solar eclipses one should go for it like some others here have.
