Observing ngc 1365 tonight with my 20" f/4.5 dob and notice something in the same field that is almost as large and bright that I don't remember seeing before and doesn't show on any maps or internet pictures. I would say mag 11 and 10 arc minutes somewhat north of the galaxy. A fellow observer checked and can't find reports of any comet in the area.
Any ideas?

Thanks Patrick, I guess we need to practice our search skills.

I was using Skysafari Dave. Must have been a great sight!

How crazy. I was looking at 1365 last night in the 32” as well. Figured it had to be a comet but my Sky Safari wasn’t displaying anything in that location.

If you have ‘show comets’ toggled off then it will only show if you search for the comet by name.

I was looking too, but couldn't decide whether it was NGC 1364 or NGC1366:)

NGC 1366 is just under 5 deg from NGC 1365.
NGC 1364 is over 26 deg from NGC 1365.
On Sat night (2020-09-12) at 10pm AEST comet C/2020 M3 (Atlas) was about 14’ away and easily in the same field of view in most ‘scopes with the right eyepiece.

My humble attempt at a little gentle humour seems to have gone down like a lead balloon.
