Hi all
Apologies for another noob question:

My guiding graph in the ASIAIR app which is similar to PHD2, the blue(RA) line is roughly along zero which seems about right.

The red(DEC) line tracks along the -2” line. Stars seem mostly round but obviously can be improved.

As per my earlier post, I strongly suspect polar alignment.

So if the RA line is good but DEC line is tracking along the -2 then which axis should I adjust?

Sorry forgot to take a screenshot! 😅

Cheers,
Reggie

Hi Reggie

Sorry about delay in responding, have been working away.
Adjust mount Azimuth for Declination error.
Adjust mount Altitude for RA.

When checking the DEC error, best to point the scope near the meridian and the equator.
When checking RA error, point the scope near the equator and low toward the West (or East) horizon.

For more information try reading PHD2 drift alignment procedure. I know you are not using PHD2, however the information is still relevant.

Thanks, Peter!

That info is a great help!😃

Hi Reggie,

May I suggest that check you haven’t got “ no dec “ or “ north only “ checked on the left hand side just above the graph. Even if your PA is slightly out, it shouldn’t just run along the -2 line it should be constantly trying to correct for the error. If you have good PA then a small movement in backlash could make it go out to -2 but with no guide correction in Dec will cause it to stay there. Also the ASIAIR has a PA routine, you should try it, it’s fantastic and really speeds up the whole process.

Cheers

Hi Ryan,

I’ve tried the routine plus other methods but unfortunately I have no view of the SCP and my view of the SE, S and SW obscured up to about 35° high so the routine doesn’t seem to work. 🤪

The only thing I haven’t tried yet is drift alignment!

But thanks for all the info. Will definitely try anything I can and once it’s finally polar aligned I’ll leave it in place and only take the OTA in at the end of the session. 🤣

Agghh. That’s frustrating . The challenges we face eh :(
Good luck with it :)
