A Fire in the Sky, Vela Gum Nebulae in the Light of Hydrogen Gas

This false colour image is a wide field mosaic of bright nebulae including the NGC 2626 region (bottom left), Gum 15 (small, bright, below centre), Gum 17 (middle right), and the north east part of Gum 12, the Vela supernova remnant (the tendrils at top left). The field of view spans 5.1 x 6.7 Degrees. Gum 15 is approximately the size of the full moon (small, bright, below centre). Discovery of vast complex of Gum nebulae is attributed to the Australian Colin Stanley Gum (1924–1960).

I have also included a thumbnail of an [Hydrogen alpha, OIII, OIII] image with RGB stars, which I think is less impactfull, but you may advise otherwise.

Technical Details:

Borg 55 mm f/3.6 astrograph, Astrodon 3-nm H alpha filter, QSI 683wsg camera. Mount: EQ8. Exposures: (18 + 21) x 20 minutes = 13 hours

Two part mosaic imaged from suburban Sydney. Software: Nebulosity 4, PHD 2, PixInsight, StarNet++, Lightroom and Photoshop.

I think you might have been pushing the limits of your mount with that scope ;) I did a narrowband image of Eta Carina with an FS-60 from my backyard in Brisbane with the same camera. Lots of exposure certainly makes up for the small aperture - it's definitely punching above it's weight.

Never realised there was so much nebulosity beside the Veil - something to add to the imaging agenda for next year.

A high impact image. I like the first one the best. The RGB star ones look like there is a bit of black clipping happening in the nebula where it ends.
