View Full Version here: : Considering permanent setup, wondering about starlink

Morning all:

Its been a while since I've been doing any astronomy of any kind but I'm slowly getting the interest again and am looking at setting up something permanent in the backyard.

But something that keeps running around in my head is: what about these starlink satellite constellations and the like? To take it to the extreme I think "oh they're going to ruin everything, what's the point, I may as well sell my gear". Now that's extreme, but its sort of the thought running around in my head.

Anyone got any thoughts?

If you are so worried about starlink then you shouldn't be, sigma kappa clipping gets rid of those pesky trails when processing.

If it becomes a problem someone may come up with a fix...I expect you could generate masks to remove them...

Taking lots of subs is a start, the more the merrier. Processing will eliminate most, for now. Sure long term, with increasing competition for an orbital parking space, thing will likely get worse. At least you have now. When Elon starts lofting stainless steel orbital refueling tankers into orbit, you can expect more issues; if he builds his Voyage station in orbit, etc etc, well you get the idea. Enjoy the present.
