Canon 1200D vs 60D

Been using my 1200D for astro for many years and wanted to ask is it worth buying a used 60D to replace it?

I don't mind using an older model as new models that come out are often expensive but would a 60D be a worthy upgrade? Was comparing the specs and it is better than a 1200D but it is 4 years older.

Thoughts?

I use my DSLR mainly in conjunction with my Z61 telescope and standalone.

Not at all worth it. They use the same sensor.

The biggest difference is that the 60D has an articulated screen.

I have a 1200d modified and I like it. You could consider upgrade to a 80d or better still a 90d depending on budget. Cheers, JohnW.

I actually preferred my trusty 1100D to my current 600D because it had a
higher ISO sweet spot [1600 against 800], and also it was more user
friendly. Having said that, I still use the 600D for its oh so convenient
articulated [ and slightly larger] screen.

Sounds like I am better off buying a few more batteries and some accessories for my 1200D to make it worth while as it sounds like it's still a strong DSLR.

Even picking up a second 1200D and getting that modified so I have both flavours is also an option!

Get a dummy battery power adaptor, and do away with batteries and the bit
of heat they generate. Get one for your model of camera on ebay, cheap as chips.

Yep already got one of them which are really good. Still need batteries though if I am remote somewhere though.

I don't think that would be worthy upgrade over your existing 1200D. Like the 1200D the 60D has a 18 Mpixel sensor and the same Digic 4/4+ image processor. Noise levels at high ISO will be verysimilar/the same, or even if you don't use higher ISOs then your ability to stretch the image will be no better than what you have already with the 1200D. Infact the 1200D, 60D and 7D all use an 18Mpixel sensor (probably identical sensors given high ISO noise test images I've seen, which look nearly identical for noise) and they all have the same Digic 4/4+ image processing engine. The only real advantage of the 60D in that context would be the articulating LCD screen compared with your 1200D.

I wouldn't do it, but if you can share your requirements/budget perhaps there may be other alternatives that could be suggested with a view to potentially improved image quality. Considerations might be for instance: Does it have to be Canon? Does it have to be APS-c or is FF OK? Mirrorless/DSLR?
