Hi
I have SA 200.New to spectroscopy.
Can anybody suggest good information site about spectroscopy.
I have QHY L III 290 Mono camera. Connected through 1.2inch adapter. But I can't find the the exact focus.
Any suggestions really appreciated
Thanks

Hi, I am sure Merlin66 (Ken) will be able to help you . He will probably chime in as he has a big interest in spectroscopy. If not maybe PM him.
Cheers , Richard.

First, check that you have the grating mounted properly at www.rspec-astro.com/calculator.
Then see Section 5 on focusing in the pdf here https://www.rspec-astro.com/getting-started-pdf/

Kempa,
Welcome to the world of spectroscopy!
The Grating is an ideal starting point, using it I call "Spectroscopy 101".
It lets you acquire and understand the spectral image, practise the processing and allows you to analyse the various features of stellar spectra.
You don't mention which telescope your using?
The grating can be used "in the converging beam" of a telescope, mounted in the 1.25" camera nosepiece or as an "objective grating" mounted directly in front of a camera lens.
Our website is a great way of making a start. Check it out.

If you need any further info/ assistance just let me know.

Hi Richard thanks for reply
Yes Tom I have installed properly. I feel back focus is short. I couldn't thread directly on camera as it has CS thread. I used an inch of cs-1.25inch adapter. will try to get shorter adapter. hopefully that may help

Hi Ken
Thanks for reply. I have 152mm triplet refractor. as mentioned early I think focus distance is the issue. I have used 1.25 inch diagonal and placed grating on to camera using cs-1.25 inch adapter. whole thing was inserted into diagonal. camera is QHY 5L III 290 M guide camera.
I will read about it. Thanks for sharing information

Sounds like the nosepiece adaptor you're using is adding enough space to be an issue.
What about removing the diagonal, and adding a small extension??
The spacing between the grating and the chip only needs to be around 30-40mm.

Thanks Ken. I will try it
