Hey all,

Finally took the plunge and ordered a planetary cam the zwo asi462. Along with it I ordered a baader uv cut filter, zwo ir pass filter and a 5x gso barlow.

Although I think I may have made a mistake with the Barlow and just want some advice before it arrives.

I have a 10 inch f5 bintel/gso dobsonian and the asi462 has a pixel size of 2.9 microns. So with what I've read I should really be looking at a 3x barlow to take me to f15 (5x2.9) is that correct? Otherwise the 5x will be f25.

Would the 5x be useful at all or should I sell it as soon as it arrives?

Kind regards

Greg.

Unfortunately yes, the 5x Barlow will probably be too much for that camera and the 3x would be better for imaging. Did you also purchase an IR-cut filter (or did you already have one)? Without the IR cut all your images are going to look too red.

Thanks for your response, I thought that was the case. Thanks for confirming.

Guess I'll put the Barlow for sale in the classifieds.

Yes got the IR filter. In my first post I accidently called it a UV filter.

No worries, best to start with the right equipment.

It's probably a UV/IR cut filter (also called an "L" filter in places).

If you haven't imaged the planets before, then these series of tutorial videos will help.

Awesome thank you.

Yeah I've done a little bit with a modified xbox cam and a dslr, Nikon so no 1:1 crop unfortunately. Never been that happy with the results.

Well, you will see a huge improvement - once you work out how to run FireCapture :) I have put a few tips in another thread here.
