Just testing the water to see if there is interest.

I bought a canon EOS Ra recently and a Skywatcher EQ35M pro but I have a Potential change of plan.

The Canon Ra was purchased new from DigiDirect about a month ago and has been used only once. It is every bit as good as they say and I also have the RF to EF adapter. These cameras are currently pretty hard to find and sell for just shy of $4000. Asking $3400 or $3500 with adapter plus shipping (or free pickup of course in Brisbane).

The price is non-negotiable as I’m not willing to take such a big a loss after a month of ownership and non use. To all intents and purposes it is brand new.

I can upload pictures soon.

The attached image was just 10 seconds at 1600 iso from a not too dark site just on a tripod with the sigma 14mm f/1.8 lens.

I was asked to upload some shots of the sensor but I’m not sure that is possible on a mirrorless camera because the curtain is there to prevent dust getting on the sensor and do that should only open with a lens attached.

I have uploaded some new photos though.

I was also asked for the shutter count. I’m guessing a maximum of about 100! I have just wasted about an hour trying to find a way of showing it but I can’t. I tried ShutterCount and APT it is not available to these third party apps. Goodness knows why Canon want to make getting that so hard.

On the upside I updated the firmware to 1.7.

If you buy this camera it is effectively brand new and you save up to $600

You can do it. I have an EOS R(a). Turn camera on with lens, remove lens and I think the shutter stays open or perhaps its remove lens turn off then on.

I did it the other day just not 100% clear now which it was.

Greg.

Thanks. I guess I knew I could set that setting that allows shutter click without a lens but I wasn’t keen to expose the sensor to the open air.

I used the camera last night for only the second time. It is a game changer. Focus took 2 seconds with the 30x panel view and centering things is simplicity thanks to the EVF.

Eta Carina is starting to shape up well

Looks like no takers, in light of which, I’ve re-assessed my plans. Nevertheless I can thoroughly recommend this opus from Canon if you are minded to go down this path.
