Hi Rob, looks like a simple extension cable, there are a number of configuration what is the purpose?
Simple extension or something else?
You can buy ribbon cable from Jaycar stores by the metre and crimp the IDC-type connectors on yourself.

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for your note.
Its to connect robofocus to a mount hub stepper box.
I have a DB9 cable to do the connection, but Robofocus suggest using the ribbon cable as they are lighter and do not move in the sockets as much.
With my thanks
Rob :)

Hi Gary,
This looks like the answer - thank you for including these links.
Ive not attempted crimping before, but can get some pointers from the jaycar staff.
Very much appreciated for your assistance
Rob:)

Hi Rob, take a bit of care crimping these, they require constant pressure across the whole crimping surface. I personally already have a crimp tool for this but being careful it can be done using a stand large plier or multigrips.
If you use multigrip adjust them so that when pressing it is more crimping evenly.
For the most part they will crimp most of the time, but occasionally uneven crimping can create odd contacts not crimping or shorting across 2 pins.

I have crimped lot of these connectors using a vice, just don't get too heavy-handed when tightening it.

Hi Richard
right you are, i will do my best to endure its an even and not too heavy application of pressure.
good suggestion on getting a larger surface to run the crimping of the ribbon
with thanks
rob
