This is a combo of M83 data from a CDK17 (1 hour of luminance Microline16 camera) and about 18 hours of luminance from ASI183mm and AP Honders F3.8.

So its mostly the RHA here.

I am happy that this little 183mm works on the Honders as the small pixels could have meant it doesn't work well with it. I'll have to experiment more with 2x2 binning as I don't think I would lose hardly any resolution but would gain a bit in signal to noise ratio.

M83 HaLRGB. 60 1180 150 250 240 minutes a total of 31 hours and 10mins

The data actually showed the extended halo and the arm that branches off the main spiral but at a cost of spoiling the rest of the image so I didn't try to get that in the final image.

A fine M83 to be sure. Colours are good without going over the top. A collection of background fuzzies to boot

Lovely Greg! Great colours - not overdone.

Perhaps a bit too much noise reduction  The detail looks a tad soft to me - especially near the core.

A great image regardless though Greg! Nicely done!

Thanks Andy. I was wanting to see how well this ASI183mm could do galaxies and it does pretty well. But its the CDK data that adds the fine detail.

Thanks Rodney. I did have several versions and I did prefer this amount of colour. Its often a challenge how much colour to "give" these objects.

Thanks Marcus. Good tip. I just did a quick repro, same link and sharpened it up quite a bit without highlighting noise. I think this is as sharp as I can get it. The CDK data, as you would expect, has more fine detail in it than the RHA 305.

Superb work Greg! You've done a most particularly fine job on the tiny dust details across the very centre of the nucleus.

Thanks Marc, that's a nice compliment.

Cheers Bart. These big scopes can get some nice detail under some good seeing.

I am glad you liked it Graham. Its one of the first images I've done with a lot of exposure time on the ASI183mm.

Thanks Paul. Opps I left a bit of edge untidiness did I? I'll fix it.

Thanks, I was happy with the detail. That's the CDK17 part. The colour is the AP scope.

Hi Greg,
that's a great image - right up there with the high end of those posted here.
I would have been tempted to use Photoshop and do a localised
adjustment at the center 1/4 area of the galaxy to increase contrast
and sharpen slightly using a blurred layer mask.

cheers

lovely M83 Greg - particularly like the colour and image scale.

really making me miss imaging deep sky and galaxies! (been waiting an eternity for a part from PP to arrive :(

Thanks Russ. I know what you mean. You can image only so many nebulas before you have to image a couple of nice galaxies.

Splendid image Greg.
Now wouldn't it be nice if another Supernova came along
to give it some extra luster. ;)

Nice Greg :D but 31 hours :eyepop: bit of an overkill don't you think:question:;) , have you counted all the background galaxies :thumbsup:

Thanks Trevor. 31 hours an overkill? Not really, many galaxy images are very long exposures.
