I must say updating to a new laptop with Win10 has been a nightmare.

Last night was beautiful and very clear.

I set up a complicated (for me) capture plan.

5 hours of data to be had.

This morning, full of enthusiasm I looked at the laptop in horror to see
'congradulations for updating MS Edge, lets get started...'

I only got 20 images (180s) and then WIN10 shut down the capture!

Lucky there was no hammer in range...

I hate that. It's things like that is why I check often...I have gone away having adjusted gain redone a focus etc etc to come back and find I did not start the capture..or a cable is causing issues..or cloud passed by or an owl landed on the rig...
Well the good news is you can see just how good an image you can get with a short exposure.

There should be a button you can press that makes it do what you want, rather than what windows wants. It's all very Douglas Adams.

in the update settings dialogue change active hours to "12 pm to 6 am" It won't update during the active hours period.

Can certainly feel your annoyance at Win10 and updates, have had a few sessions spoiled by the Updates. I now make sure that whenever I'm using my Win10 laptop for planetary and lunar, that I double check that the wi-fi is turned off and have changed the settings as Peter suggests, to a midday time. Though that could possibly interfere with solar imaging.
Still use an older, quite functional Win7 laptop with updates turned off for DSO imaging, doesn't need to be connected to the "web".

Also, nice start on the "Helix", looking good, can always get more data on the next clear night to add to.

MICROSOFT EDGE!!! :mad2:
Got me too last night.
Dont know if the metered connection trick still works to stop auto updates?
Every W10 update breaks something on both my desktop and my new and old laptops and resets and reinstall stuff, which wouldn't be that bad if Microsoft didn't aggressively push updates, and I could actually just update when I decided I feel I have the sanity to deal with it.

I got eight 180s Ha and OII exposures of NGC7293 at the expense of sleep and sanity. I'd be very happy to end up with a result like yours. Great picture of a cool object, sorry you missed hours more data!

Thanks chaps.

I made the change to 'active hours'.
It was set 8AM to 5PM and I changed it to 8PM to 5AM.

The dialogue said 'Windows won't interrupt...'

Also will turn off WiFi.

And I will place a large hammer beside the laptop, just try and do that to me again...

My dedicated Astro laptop ( HP Omen 15” Gaming Laptop i7 series 9 ,32GB RAM ) I use for capture and processing is permanently disconnected from the internet so no interference at all for the last 2 or so years from updates , virus protection start ups etc....
The only time it’s connected to the internet is when I have to install new software ( recently installed APT for my new ZWOASI2600MC when the damn thing eventually arrives ) Windows 10 has been running seamlessly for all that time without a hitch
All my files are transferred to my desktop from a USB stick or direct to a remote hard disk if I need to clear file space
When I first started AP , it use to drive me insane having so many interruptions during capture with updates , virus runs etc....
Fixed the issue for good now !!
Cheers
