I have already earlier written an article about the old observatory at Stockholm in Sweden where I live. Only 30 minutes away from my home by the subway. A friend to me, Nippe, told me that he had written an article about that observatory's history. I got permission to use it on my homepage. I have translated it to english (not perfect but I hope you understand the information) and implemented it among my earlier photos from the observatory.

Nippe's history article is very interesting, a lot of information about the observatory that I wasn't aware about.

Enjoy reading !

Tack så mycket Lars. Excellent, interesting article. I was in northern Sweden in 2004 but didn't get to Stockholm.

Yes, indeed . If this virus situation changes  in 2021, I plan to go back to Finland and visit the Helsinki Observatory as well as the Sodankyla Geophysical Observatory for an aurora trip.....

Hi,
Interesting, I wasn't awary of any observatory in Finland. I googled on the ones you mentioned and found a lot of interesting to read.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helsinki_University_Observatory

They have a double refractor with two 0.33 meter

I and my girlfriend has talked about go north to see one (or many) Aurora. We live in Sweden but found at that time it was best to go to Iceland. Maybe different today.

Thanks for the information, I added the observatories on my list:
