Looks like some bad weather about to hit the east coast of NSW this week
Thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain is expected to lash the south coast , Sydney and mid north coast from Monday to Thursday
Pack your scopes away and close your observatories for a week or two
Stay safe and keep dry

Just got back from a week away in QLD - as usual, I came back on the Newell Highway, and it rained from Moree to Canberra.

Yeah, East Coast Low spinning up. It was tipped by the Newcastle NBN weather man a few days ago. Observatory cleared out and all buttoned up. Roof lock downs secure. Looks like it might stay south of Newcastle and impact Sydney Illawara etc mainly. Then again most of these things seem to dip south then drift back north when they get pushed by a high pressure ridge.
Stay safe.

Just an update on the weather event. It has been raining here at Lake Mac for hours, lots of lightening, very heavy rain, red zone on the radar at times. Radar shows the storm moving SSE from the NNW, heading offshore and down the coast towards Sydney. You can see the extent of the system now on Sydney radar. This seems to be the beginning. If it is going to spin in toward the coast it will need to start to turn west or west south west by morning.

Copped a drenching last night on the South Coast and medium to heavy showers all day
Looks like that Low has intensified and moved northeast towards Sydney ,the Central Coast and Mid north coast
The heavy rain is most welcome down here around all the burnt out state forests and fire affected coastal towns
Some showers tonight and tomorrow , tapering off by Thursday

Yes, as typical it moved south past us, dumping in the process, then returned back up the coast to hammer us again. However, in terms of some previous East Coast Lows, this one was fairly mild.
We are going to need some good sunshine for a few days, and low humidity, to dry things out.
