I’m going to replace the standard focuser on my ed100.
The stock one is ok to a degree but I want something a bit more rock solid.
I’ve been looking at the Baader steeltrack in particular as it’s the right money.
However I’m worried it won’t reach focus with my asi cameras.
It looks like it’s only just gonna make it with my dslr and reducer.
On my standard focuser it needs to be out a considerable way for it to reach focus, more than the Baader will go according to measurements.
Has anyone tried the BDS on a ed100 here?
The body and tube on the moonlite seems to be more like the size of the standard gear. However they don’t offer a thread to screw my reducer and camera on the end of the 2inch tube, so I’d have to go to the larger 2.5in draw tube to be able to physically screw my reducer therefore upping the cost considerably.

You might need to use extension tubes in the imaging train between your focuser and the camera setup to get the right distance.

My opinion only, others will disagree although I would also suggest a quality rack and pinion focuser over a Crayford any day.

I’d love a quality rack and pinion but it’s so much more dollarbucks.
Probably as much as the scope is worth.
I don’t need top shelf stuff at the moment, but don’t want to cheap out at the same time. I’m after something midrange for this scope until I decide to upgrade all my gear.
If you know of a good r&p which also has adaptors to fit the ed100 tube I’m all ears. Beating in mind I don’t want the hassle of getting a custom adapter made.

@Pepper, what did you up with?
I am in a similar situation where my standard ED80 focuser is most likely not up to the task with heavy gear coming soon.

Nothing with the ed100 yet. I put the money towards a newt instead.
I’ll get round to it one day.
