Wondering if anyone has seen this telescope company before?

Thoughts on the designs?

John, have a look at Max’s review of the Doc Herschel, looks like a well thought out scope...

Thanks Matt - I had seen this review and the thread
Hi Russ - I am just thinking ahead for a few years - the ideal planetary scope for me is a short focal length 20" either as a dobsonian or something light weight that I can mount on a EQ mount like an EQ8 or Titan etc.
I am more interested in people's view of these new design aluminium/carbon fiber dobsonians which appear to be updated designs to the traditional dobsonians and whether they offer good stability. Some similar to the Doc Telescopes design are not getting great reviews, e.g. GSO, Hubble Optics, Edmund Scientific etc. but Doc Telescopes look very innovative and could be at another level.

I think the Doc is more akin to SkyVision scopes than ES, Hubble and their ilk.
Another aluminium construction is the SpicaEyes range by Tom Osypowski.
I copied one of Tom’s designs to some degree for my DIY attempt...

Have often wondered about large dobsonians in the 20” to 24” inch range and if they can be more cheaply built using a solid aluminium tube when they don’t have to be portable and are housed permanently in a roll off observatory. Like John Dobson originally built them in some ways even though he used cardboard tubes.
The DOC telescopes do look amazing.

They most certainly can John. Coulter used to sell Sonotube Dobs of
13" 17.5" and 29" back in the day,[about 30-35 yrs ago.] If I remember rightly the 29" was US$2,900.I used my friend's 17.5" many times, great scope. 800x on the moon was awesome when the seeing was good.

Gary Mitchell rolled 2 tubes for Anthony Wesley as well as Phil Miles’ 20”F4 Newtonian, as well as making rings, cell etc. No reason it couldn’t be put into a Dobsonian base.
I was going to get Gary to build one for me but then decided I needed more compact design.
