I was reading some back issues of the New Scientist and came across an article discussing recent findings from the Spitzer telescope suggesting that the Pillars of Creation have been blown apart by a Supernova but we won't see any change for another millenium.

I'm doing some Ha on M16 at the moment - purely by coincidence - and was struck by the realisation that something we know as remarkable and beautiful is actually a chimera now - a ghost but fortunately perhaps, we will never live to see it go.

It's actually mind blowing to think about.

How can we still observe Pillars of Creation as they were destroyed by a supernova about 6 thousand years ago? I found that the reason for it is that Pillars of Creation are located from us at a distance of seven thousand light-years, then how do we know they are destroyed..

All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 10,000 years.
