Most Unusual...always thought that place was bitterly cold all year round.
I remember the ' old line ' ... if you didn't toe the line , you were sent to Siberia for punishment.

Yeah, far out... talk about turning on an atmospheric carbon tap! Burning Siberian permafrost will be absolutely epic.

Huh? Sorry, and????? Every time I have been to Siberia in spring or summer, it has been hot. 35° last time I was there for most of the 2 weeks.

Fair enough :) But its an all-time high temp in the Arctic. And 3 degrees is a fair bit. And a chunk of it is on fire or covered in smoke. And the picture shows those massive fires, and smoke clouds right next a still-iced-in coastline (a couple of hundred km north). I think its a noteworthy article, for sure!

Same thing happened last year in Siberia with the excess heat, there was a lot of concern of methane being released from the permafrost into the atmosphere. A lot of native deer died from methane poisoning.
