Galaxy I.D. help

Hi All,
Just before packing up last night I decided to try a faint Galaxy shot, but dident record what Galaxy I took, I thought it was M-84 In the Virgo/Coma Bernices area, but this dosent tie up with the charts, It was in this area, and the FOV is approx. 1.5 x 2 Deg., Can anyone help, Im posting a full size Pix. plus negative, also a cropped Pix. for I.D. , bit like a Jigsaw puzzle to me.

Is north up? What magnitude are the galaxies?

this is a quick photo taken two nights ago it is of M84 wide field maybe this can help you identify your photo

If you haven't already seen it I suggest using this tool (http://www.ngc891.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Stars&file=constellation&catalogue=Caldwell), it will allow for search by constellation, and give you maps and images for verification.

Thanks for the comments and help, Glenc- yes north is up, the Mag. of the bright Galaxies in this Pix. is 9.3, down to less than 10, not much light into the Scope, Phil- many thanks for that web-page info. ill have a look and see what I can identify with it and your picture and post the results.

I understand your problem all to well, but here's why it's hard to identify your galaxies - (see attachment).All the circles are galaxies of 8-12 Mag. I spent most of last night shooting this area and have the same problem.

The following are all the NGC elliptical galaxies in Virgo with magnitude less than 10.
NGC 4365, 4374, 4406, 4472, 4486, 4552, 4621, 4636, 4649 and 4697. Most of them are M objects.
None of them match the bright E galaxy at the top left of your image.

Hi All,
O.K. guys and thanks for your help, I havent had a chance to follow this up as the skys have been clear every night, so imaging is top priority (and the time it takes to process) but I shall and post my findings.
