Had a bit of fun last night under a near full moon and imaged NGC 3372 Carina Nebula
1st image is the Keyhole Nebula using my 8” f5 newt and Canon 600D with a Televue 2 x Powermate ( no coma corrector) which effectively turned my scope into an 8” f10 at a focal length of 2000mm
ISO 800
No filters
35 x 5 minute dithered guided subs
15 x darks
2nd image is the outer region of the Carina Nebula with Baader coma corrector which includes the notable bright star w Car or SAO 251090
ISO 800
No filters
80 x 2 minute dithered guided subs
40 x darks
PHD2 guiding at 1.20 arc sec error
Goto and tracking EQMOD, StellariumScope and Stellarium
Frame focus and capture BYEOS
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V 1.5 Linear data set
Comments welcome
I like what you achieved. Did it require unusually heavy processing to reduce the effects of moon light? Always interested in things to do during a full moon beyond baying at it!

A lot of close up detail there and amazing for the f ratio and iso and moon. . Great job. I will have to try the SCT again on this.

My DSS stacked fits file looked like blue cellophane ( moon glare )
I use Startools which is powerful processing software and the Wipe module removes most of the noise gradient, Skyglow and vignetting
Other modules in Startools like “Life” and Noise reduction” also clean up the image of the remaining noise clumps etc...
I use a stock DSLR so I’m not picking up very much Ha and OIII in objects, I rely on lots and lots of subs to pick up some detail
Hopefully progressing to a ZWO OSC cooled Camera in a few months after using the DSLR for nearly 4 years

Thanks
I was surprised how well the image turned out , leaving the ISO at 800 was the key together with plenty of data ( I can deal with the moon glare using Startools )

That zoomed version looks amazing. It's a quite sharp considering the focal length. Lovely colour overall. Some good work there Martin. Well done.

Thanks LIS
As Carina is a super bright object, using the 2 x Powermate worked well with ISO 800 and plenty of 5 minute subs
I suspect dimmer objects wouldn't net the same result
Some more experimenting with the 2 x Powermate when skies are clear with no moon around is definitely on the cards

Very nice images Martin,
Great close ups with a lot of of detail. Sharp stars and perfect colours.
Always a pleasure to view your images.
Cheers

Martin,
Thanks for the information
I also use a DSLR (Nikon 5600), usually on a star adventurer either with a cheap lens or with a redcat and make a fairly blind use of Astropixel Processor to stack and mildly process my urban images and do some extremely basis/dodgy manipulation with GIMP, but as well as longer imaging time I need to learn a lot more tricks to get the images to have a more spacey dark background and the nebula to pop out a bit more from the star fields.

Good one bloke. Colours look nice and balanced. I'm slowly getting my head around ST . You have crafted well . Thanks .. I should give it another go.
Thanks

Thanks Wes
I tried using a 2 x Powermate on the Lagoon 3 years ago but that was with short unguided exposures and little experience, turned out to be a mess
Judging from this image lm confident I can image the brighter DSO’s now using it , it’s going to be a lot of fun

Fantastic. I often have wondered about such an approach. Excellent really.

Very nice Martin. Sometime I reckon this looks better with a camera that doesn't let through too much Ha - brings out other colours
