Hi all,

Here's my latest efforts, The Running Chicken Nebula IC2944.

This image is a 2 hour 12 minute long exposure (33 x 4 min. subs) with the 12" scope.

There's a much better version of the image here
http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/IC%202994.html

Observatory mounted telescope is a modified 12-inch f/5 Newtonian telescope on Losmandy Gemini G-11 equatorial mount. At prime-focus is a Canon EOS 300D Digital (modified) and focused with DSLR Focus. Autoguided with an SBIG 402 CCD Camera on 4.5-inch f/9 guidescope using CCDSoft. 2" Baader Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector (MPCC). 2" Baader UV/IR Rejection Filter. Image Processing Iris, Photoshop, Noiseware.

very nice chicken nebula Paul. not an object image regularly. maybe slightly too red.

Nice going Paul, the blok globs things stand out very nicely against the emmission stuff......maybe a tad to much saturation...but a very fine and deep image...

Wow, those Thackarays Globules look like drops of black ink, and with such a long exposure theres no noise at all. Well done. To think this nebula is a relatively faint one, but not here!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for looking. Thanks for comments. Yes colours are a bit saturated but so was the resulting image!

Later on I will try subtracting more red from the image ( I have already subtracted 33% of the red channel !!!).

Houghy, can't see the chicken eh?
I think we had the conversation before :)
see http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=9597&highlight=chicken

thanks everyone

Hi everyall,

I've created a Version 2 of the Lambda Centauri Nebula with less red.

There's a higher resolution and image details at this link,
http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/IC%202994.html

For those who can't make out the chicken I've also attached my interpretation of how the chicken shape roughly matches the shape of the nebula. I could be wrong...

But here goes:help: , it looks to me like each side of the nebula portrays a wing and the middle part of the nebula forms the chicken body and thins to the neck which disappears off top of the image. Quite possible that the two pointy shaped parts of the nebula that appear at bottom-right of image could be chicken thighs and legs !

Thats fantastic. Im starting to see interesting striations in the "head" of the chook, where the plumage on a chook would be. Also the edge at bottom is very well defined, looks like it runs into a dark nebula, and of course Thacakarays Globules stand out in stark relief at right. Nicely framed too.
